Dear Dreamers and Believers,
I have a big favor to ask of you.
We are asking the community to write a flood of letters of support for the MAMMOTH to support two applications we recently wrote for the 2017 Imagine Greater Louisville 2020 Grant Cycle (www.Imaginegreaterlou.org).
It would be really helpful for you to write under "REAWAKEN THE MAMMOTH" and/or "MAMMOTH GARDENS" Projects, if you would be so kind. The deadline for public comment is this THURSDAY October 19th, by MIDNIGHT E.T. THANKS!!
Called “MAMMOTH Gardens” -- asking for grant help to embellish the MAMMOTH GARDENS with several dozen raised bed gardens, which will be open to the California Neighborhood Community as well as the artists and participants here at the Mammoth Community. We are also looking to expand our Garden Collective to include folks from all across the city. I was hoping that you could take a few minutes to type up a 250 word comment to support our application. and submit it to let Louisville Metro Council and the Grant Reviewers know how much you love and support the MAMMOTH and all that it can and will be once we get through this next string of hurdles.
Called “REAWAKEN THE MAMMOTH” -- asking for city money to help fund the MAMMOTH’s hiring of a structural engineer and an architect to give a full assessment of the structural repairs we need to make to this 152 year-old historic building and a design plan for the basement columns that need repair. We will then submit these plans to the city to acquire a building permit and be on our way to getting the repairs completed in 2018, allowing us to REOPEN THE MAMMOTH!!! Please take a few minutes to get the reviewers hyped about the MAMMOTH and all that we are trying to do here.

CALL FOR THE ART WAFFLE: "Hello Artist/ musician/ crafter/ business-owner friends! We're organizing a HUGE shareholders Art Waffle (we will each buy in to have Collective ownership of the art, and at the event (our first shareholders' meeting) we will draw names to see who gets to keep each item for the First Thousand Years... then we will rotate). Art shareholding funds will contribute to taking the first step and hiring a Structural Engineer to draft a plan to repair the basement columns. We will be selling Shareholder Tickets all over Louisville over the next two weeks, and hope to pull in a nice amount for KPFF Engineering firm's bill. Please contact me if you would like to contribute art, music merchandise, T-shirts, gift cards etc. Thanks for your time taken to read this, and we're all looking forward to seeing what kind of amazing, cool Louisville stuff comes together for the Waffle! We're already excited about the work from the folks who have already said they'd contribute! Pics of Art Waffle items will be posted soon. (If you want to help organize this, or wish to volunteer for the event, please send me a message). Gracias! -Aron"
If you can't make it out, but want to support us, we're working on a GO FUND ME type page right now... If you know something about this and want to help, please contact Aron
BACKGROUND of The MAMMOTH :
Completed in 1865, The Mammoth is a 152-year-old warehouse, built by the Union Army during the Civil War. It was then home to Magnolia Ham Company from 1867 until the 1920s, then used by the Louisville Paper Company until the 1950s. It was purchased by Louisville Tin and Stove to warehouse manufactured goods, then in 1988 Cundiff Moving and Storage took over. In 2012 the building was bought by Artists with a vision to turn it into a creative Art center with Art studios, band practice spaces, and generally to operate as a DIY creative culture. However, in Fall of 2015 the building was condemned by the Fire Department due to structural issues with several basement posts. In turn, here in 2017 we at the Mammoth Studios are fundraising for building repairs to get the creative juices flowing again.
We at the MAMMOTH are marking its fifth anniversary and holding a fundraiser Wednesday, through Friday, May 3–5 to keep this collaborative art, music and creative space open and expanding.
Sadly, you will not be able to go inside the 152-year-old warehouse, because, city officials say structural work is needed.
Thus, the fundraiser.
The spirit of The MAMMOTH began as an idea in 2005... (Click above to read LEO article.)
TO BE EDITED....
The Mammoth currently has one events planned for December 20 12-6pm. Please stay tuned. We will be working in the coming weeks and months to attain a permanent certificate of occupancy for assembly, allowing us to host more events. If you would like to contribute time, funds, or skill to help out, please email: firstname.lastname@example.org or text 502-758-8338
The third floor, LEVEL 3 of the Mammoth is a storage facility. To learn more about our lowest rates for storage in the area, visit our storage website:
A million thanks to amazing friends who helped attain the unattainable to achieve getting temporary certificates of occupancy for our December 2012 events. We got so much done with so little time and made the Artist Syndicate show and the Holiday Bazaar possible. The community kicked in gear and it wastruly amazing what we got done. In fact, all the work we did in 2012 was simply amazing!
Although we wish we were better equipped to fit all the artists and musicians in immediately, we currently don't have all the funds to build out broadly and open up quickly. Since the Mammoth has hosted its last two events of 2012, we are are going into phantom-mode, hibernation for the winter... closing the doors until we are compliant and legal with city codes and regulations. Once the MAMMOTH has a change of use permit for assembly occupancy in hand, we will start planning to buildout studios and band practice spaces. Until then the MAMMOTH will be working on attaining storage business.

STORAGE: Dear Friends - Do you have a storage space? What would it take in order for The MAMMOTH to earn your storage business? Many of the storage facilities in Louisville are corporate chains. We have two floors in The MAMMOTH that are locked down and dedicated to storage. Letting us earn your business will help to generate extra funds to put in bathrooms, improve the event space, and start to build studios for artists. We can handle big and small storage needs, residential and commercial. Please spread the word! We are depending on our strong social network, and we are willing to work hard to provide excellent service. Contact for quotes! =)
If you or someone you know would like to support the progress at the MAMMOTH by moving your storage to our space, please get in touch by email - email@example.com Here's our beautiful web-sized brochure:
Why we're doing this:
>Besides needing large studio spaces near our living space, and wanting a community of people to work around, we recognize that there's a problem with the fact that Louisville has very little in the way of artists run warehouse space. We know other people also think that
Louisville needs a place for new possibilities. This is an opportunity for people with dreams, skills and energy to come together and make something as a community. Imagine another local art cooperative/ more art studios/ open
meeting spaces/ an installation space and art gallery/
live/work spaces/ an independent media center/ band practice spaces/a great live music venue/ a truly unique film viewing space/ a recording studio/ an
underground local music.art museum/ more community gardens and green space/ sculpture gardens/and who knows what else? Access to an open workable, community run space will give artists and other creatives
an opportunity to invest in themselves by having the choice to either rent or (eventually) purchase the space
they work in year after year, while themselves being able to interact with other artists and like-minded people. It's up to the community to work together and make
things happen here. Get in touch and let's see what's possible.
